flickering when hovering over transparent taskbar

Postby eyebex » Wed Jul 28, 2004 10:19 pm

hi,

i'm having a transparent taskbar and set transparency to 0 (fully opaque) when hovering with the mouse. i get *no* flickering when entering the taskbar but i *get* flickering when leaving the taskbar again with the mouse. it seems to become black for a very short time. i'm using winxp sp1, themes are diabled (win2k look).

Yes, you are correct.
Unfortunately, the black-flickering is caused by Windows in the way Windows handles transparent windows. Transparent windows in the current versions of Windows are a bit of a quick hack added by Microsoft to Windows. The "reduce flickering" is a hack in ShellEnhancer to try to prevent the black-flickering. Unfortunately this can cause a performance issue with large windows.

We'll have to wait for Windows Longhorn and ShellEnhancer for Longhorn to have perfect transparency ;)
