Windows 7 E Cancelled
It seems Microsoft will not release a Windows 7 E for the European Union after all. Windows 7 E was planned for the EU to be a Windows 7 version without Internet Explorer. Now, Microsoft will implement a ballot screen that will be shown the first time a user starts Internet Explorer. That ballot screen gives the user the option to select a different browser like Firefox, Safari, Chrome, Opera and so on.

Maybe this will mean that Europeans do not get ripped off with a pricing structure that does not allow upgrades, only full versions.
Then again, given that American software houses, especially Adobe, always like to charge Europeans more than they ask in the “home market” I won’t hold by breath.

We’ll see how this works out. The EU might decide to go after Microsoft again…
I keep comparing it to the EU sueing BMW because if you want to have a navigation system when you buy the car you can only choose the BMW satnav, not a tomtom or the satnav from Mercedes or anything else…
